Chronic pain can be debilitating, and it will just be in one area. For example if your dog has been diagnosed OA in his hips it will not be just his hips that are sore! There will be areas of compensation – spreading their weight to make it easier on their legs. This will include areas such as back, neck, and shoulders, leading to tight muscles in these areas too. By treating your dog as a whole and massaging all the body these tight muscles will be released. Oxygen will be delivered to all areas and inflammation reduced by improved circulation. It will release the tension in the muscles by releasing the facia, allowing the muscles to move freely. This act of pain relief aims to reduce the compensating muscle tension so the muscles will be used equally, in turn reducing over and under use of muscles and a return to their normal role. It also has a feel-good factor too!
